What makes a good offroad scooter?

A good offroad scooter can easily cope with any terrain, because it is built for the tough off-road conditions. Typically, an offroad scooter has a suspension fork that optimally absorbs the shocks of the terrain caused by stones or roots, disc brakes that grip snappily even in the wet or in the most extreme conditions, and sufficient ground clearance so that touching down on uneven ground is avoided.

Which off-road scooter suits you?

Which offroad scooter is right for you essentially depends on how you want to use the scooter. Roughly speaking, there are 3 different types of offroad scooters:

Offroad Scooter models

A cross-country scooter is designed for riding on unpaved forest and field paths, but not for downhill descents or intensive terrain with roots, large stones, etc. Offroad scooters are designed for fast and effortless riding on moderate terrain. The footboard or the ground clearance is significantly higher than that of a Street scootersbut not as high as with pure downhill scooters. This enables a much more efficient propulsion than is the case with downhill scooters. Often, offroad scooters do not have a suspension fork, as this only shows its advantages on more difficult terrain. As a result, the price of cross-country scooters is usually significantly lower than that of downhill scooters. Last but not least, offroad models have a shorter wheelbase, which is reflected in their greater manoeuvrability and lighter weight.

Downhill scooter

Downhill scooters are extremely robust scooters with a large wheelbase that are specially designed for riding downhill. The amply dimensioned frame creates a very safe riding experience - even on steep terrain and at high speeds. A high footboard height prevents the scooter from touching down too quickly on uneven ground. Downhill scooters feature a suspension fork with long Spring travel. Another practical feature is the lockout function, which can be used to switch off the suspension fork. This is particularly helpful when riding uphill, as it prevents the suspension fork from bouncing. Downhill scooters are less suitable for riding on the flat or on easy terrain, as more force is required.

Offroad Scooter Mixed Forms

The distinction between cross-country and downhill scooters is fluid. There are some models that are a good compromise between cross-country and downhill. Downhill scooter enter into. Often, these scooters also have an adjustable footboard height, which allows the scooter to be adapted to the conditions of the terrain. These models are suitable for stronger terrain, but can also be ridden efficiently on level ground or even uphill.
